What is the difference between a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) & CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)?

The principle of operation in both lamp is same. The main difference between a CCFL & CFL is that in CCFL the Cathode(Electrode) operate at nearly one tenth temperatures compared to a CFL. The CFL uses a fragile Filament/ Cathode made of tungsten on which a emitter is applied. While in case of CCFL the cathode is strong & not fragile like CFL & carries higher quantity of Emitter which can emit electrons at lower temperatures. Thus CCFL has life time of over 3-4 times that of CFL. CFL has nearly 50% higher lumen/watt efficiency over CCFL, but considering the life the over efficacy of CCFL is better than CFL.
